Kevin N. Perkey is an associate with the firm whose practice focuses on tax planning and controversy, mergers and acquisitions, business entity formation, business succession planning, general corporate and transactional law, and estate planning.
Mr. Perkey’s tax planning practice includes advising clients regarding the tax consequences of all types of transactional planning matters, including mergers, acquisitions, stock sales, asset sales, choice of entity decisions, business formation and operation, and like-kind exchanges. Mr. Perkey’s tax controversy practice involves representing clients in disputes before state and federal tax agencies, including the Tennessee Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service. Controversy representation typically begins at the audit level and continues as far as necessary, including litigation.
In addition to his tax practice, Mr. Perkey maintains a general business practice which involves assisting clients with a variety of day-to-day business matters, including contract negotiation and drafting, mergers, acquisitions, sale of business transactions, joint ventures, entity formation, and dissolution.
Mr. Perkey was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee. He graduated magna cum laude from Carson-Newman College in 1997 with a B.S. in accounting. Mr. Perkey obtained his J.D., with highest honors, from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2000. While at the College of Law, Mr. Perkey was named to the Order of the Coif and served as a Staff Editor for The Tennessee Law Review, as well as Editor of articles and essays for Transactions: The Tennessee Business Law Journal. Following his graduation from law school, Mr. Perkey obtained his LL.M. in taxation from the University of Florida in 2001 where he served as a Graduate Editor of the Florida Tax Review. Mr. Perkey is a member of the Knoxville, Tennessee, and American Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Sevierville, Tennessee Sunrise Rotary Club.
