Michael J. King is a member of the firm whose primary areas of practice include landlord and tenant, both commercial and residential, product liability, commercial litigation, general litigation, personal injury, and workers’ compensation. Mr. King has handled a wide variety of business disputes both outside the context of litigation and in trial courts. He has advised his various clients with regard to shareholders’ disputes, negotiation, drafting of agreements concerning business relationships, and has participated in several shareholder derivative actions. In the context of product liability, he has appeared in the courts of several states on behalf of his clients and has worked extensively on issues regarding the admission and exclusion of expert witnesses in complex toxic tort litigation.
Mr. King is a co-author of the Tennessee Section of Business Torts, A Fifty State Guide. He has also lectured in the areas of Landlord and Tenant law and the admissibility of evidence.
Mr. King was born in Smithtown, New York, and raised in New Port Richey, Florida. He graduated from Syracuse University with a B.A. in mathematics and political science. After graduating from Syracuse University, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, with a deferred service commitment to attend law school. Mr. King obtained his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1992. He is licensed in Tennessee and North Carolina.
Mr. King served for four years in the United States Air Force as a Judge Advocate and came to Woolf McClane in October 1996. He is a member of the Knoxville Bar Association where he serves as secretary and is on the Board of Governors. He is also co-chair of the publications committee and has previously served on the interprofessional relations committee and membership committee. Mr. King is active in the Tennessee Bar Association. He is a graduate of the TBA’s Leadership Law Program and currently serves on the steering committee for the program. He is also a member of the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association. |
